A Leg Up

I once sat in a lonely place
forgotten by the crowd.
The pain that I felt
cannot be said aloud.

They would speak in whispers
they would sit and point at me.
Shaking their heads in sadness
wondering what I’ll be.

They saw me at my lowest
calling me a fool.
Take away my efforts
breaking all my tools.

A hand came from the darkness
picks me off the street.
Breathes life back into me
helps me to my feet.

He held me very close
a healing Light I felt.
I knew I found the Way
at his feet I knelt.

I asked Him to help me
He ask, “what do you need?’
I asked Him for the strength
to help me to succeed.

He said, “I am the Truth, the Light
A Lamp to show the way.
I am always with you.
remember what I say.”

“To find all the love you need
look within is just the start.
You’ll find Me close a hand
I’m here deep in your heart.”

I went to work for Jesus
spreading the good news.
You can have a life of love
it’s up to you to choose.

I’m not looking for reward
for all that I have done.
Jesus paid too much for me
my wretched soul He’s won.

I look back over my life
there’s one thing I’ll say.
With the help of Jesus
I have found my way.

No longer am I on the street
my life has just begun.
The thing I really like the most
I’m working for His Son.

He brought me home to celebrate
an achievement I can share.
That is, to reach out to Him
you’ll find He always cares.
