Harmful Stress

Everybody knows that harmful stress
We of ourselves create
A condition that wreaks havoc with
Our health and mental state.

Though some is unavoidable
And we learn to deal with it
It's the little things in life we find
That oft give us a fit.

But perhaps the stress that gets to us
Stems from relationships
A common thread in families
That keeps them in its grips.

The crippling effect of feeling loathed
Or the clash of opposing wills
Are examples of the kind of stress
That maims and often kills.

Which fills hospitals everywhere
And swells the mental wards
But more than that, oft drives a wedge
Of permanent discord.

Yes, harmful stress, everybody knows
We of ourselves create
A condition that wreaks havoc with
Our health and mental state.
