What Remains?

After the blood, sweat, and tears what remains?
Once the soul realizes it can't shine anymore, when the flesh
is too weak to carry on, when tears fall so often they leave trails
displaying your pain every time it rains, what remains?

Consumed amidst killers and daylight guerrillas
spit out amongst the vomit and vermin
corrupt from watching your people self-destruct
eating away at your desire like a tapeworm
when the only thing left is empty thoughts and fragmented regrets, what remains?

Caught in the trap no longer able to maintain
tired of explaining your pain to doctors while your hands
are chained so tight scars still are visible
veins drained cause leaches constantly blood sucking
when your insides feel decayed and you hear the goon squad about to raid, what remains?

Won't be able to hold court in the streets
to weak to physically compete, when all you think about is getting more sleep trying to gather strength, but you
can't seem to replenish it, so close to defeat and that eternal sleep, what remains?

When the stress is too much to contest, not enough desire to crawl another step
you can hear the approach of your final breath, but
you fight cause thats all you know, throwing death blows
that don't connect
not enough strength to wipe away your own sweat

Right before i die i open my eyes and there's nothing left?
