Unwelcomed Like So Much Unfinished Business

you come often
un-invited
into my dreams
an intrusion
I'm tricked into welcoming

your fine hello
I cannot hear its
insincerity
and hallow-ness
its only a dream
after all

you charm
you cajole
you smile your reptile smile
being careful not to show
too much tooth

you convince
you close the sale
and sell the sizzle
I'm the one
your prize

in dreams again
I have been un-wise
and befuddled
my heart and head all a-muddled
the confusion you sow
is not subtle

sloe-eyed slattern
slink away to some other
with your vampire-like sleekness

prey on  some other
not on my kind meekness
I have banished you a hundred times

yet you find a way
to come back
unwelcomed,
like so much unfinished business.
