aside from
          barring the tally
of pen etching paper or words typed,
 nothing abides or bears
to explain the depth of reason
                            deepness of meaning
                            expanse of inspiration
                                                    you truly are
 respectively arrived at diverse points
                      under immensely divergent thresholds
            singularly with a caliber unmatched
without exception all-and-sundry
            are footprints
                       across the soul
                                         that guide.

I originally wrote this poem after reading a prompt for a contest.
The prompt was given to write a poem about heroes. So I set out to create a list.
A list of those I thought of as such and a list of why, and what made that so...
The poem is the process to write a poem about heroes, however, on my list my heroes were penned.
Penned because...for me a hero doesn't wear a cape or play for a major league team.
To me a hero is someone who creates "awe" in us, who cares without concern of credentials,
who is real & honest, who is genuine & gives of them-self without expectation of receipt,
who lives a life that doesn't bow but that lifts to move forward even when faced with adversity.
I penned a list of a few dozen that over this life thus far have created the vision of what a hero is.
I thank God for the gift he has bestowed in my life for the people on my list, people,
who are inspiration, that have been and are friends, and for the extension of friendship.
