When They Do That

Perhaps it's just a character flaw that the tongue is not controlled
And becomes a lethal weapon when vile rumors are retold.

There are those who love to gossip, oft behind another's back
And never stop and think about the integrity they lack.

So rarely do they feel remorse for spreading grapevine tales
Very often born of jealousy with presupposed details.

But talk is sweetly tempting and so seldom is dismissed
By those who should know better and yet find they can't resist.

They cannot seem to stop themselves and proceed with shameless gall
Knowing when they can't speak any good, they shouldn't talk at all.

And I was just as guilty of indulging in that game
Until I learned that bearing tales could only bring me shame.

Yes, perhaps it is a character flaw when the tongue is not controlled
And becomes a lethal weapon when vile rumors are retold.
