Recipe for Fools

The thing I used to fear the most
Was dying all alone
Knowing even with my loved ones near
I'd still be on my own.

Yes, on my own all by myself
And so afraid to die
Being fully aware that death could come
In the twinkling of an eye.

But I thumbed my nose at serving God
And lived by my own rules
Although my doing so was just
A recipe for fools.

I tried hard to ignore it
The state that I was in
But never could escape the fact
That I was lost in sin.

But now, when the angels come for me
With assurance I can stand
And know I'll never die alone
For the Lord will hold my hand.
