All You Have To Do Is Breathe....

some must have a label
for certain others to understand
without the label
they not able
to see the person at hand

some people need a place
for art to be seen and shown
without this perfect spot and pedigree
they're not as inspired
being truly convinced that
all art must have its
proper place, its proper home

some people when they meet
must wear the proper gown
and go to all the right spots
and malinger only in the best place in town

some people wouldn't know
a fine poem
if it slapped them in the face
some people wouldn't see the beauty in a river
or a mountain or in an ordinary face
unless it was surround with a frame

some people wouldn't know a friend
or be able to share a simple meal
in a church basement with others
who hadn't bathed for awhile
or seen a dentist annually
or took a cruise and owned a Glockenspiel

I don't always like some people
I try to do my best
I know they're full of compliance
I am patient with their tests

Some people cause much too much chaos
Some people are too fond of control
and death and war
I think I'm going to stop this poem now
and forget those people
and begin touting peace
and push some people and their ideas
out the door

they can live on the flat earth
eat with the right people
dress in black tie and satin gown
they can see pretty pretty pictures
in nice expensive frames
and be scrubbed and spiffed up
and guffaw and cajole one another
act as if they'd won the Oscar
be the perfect clowns

I'll take my chances with the Imperfect
we'll get along just fine
living as the day decides and comes
not worrying about wasting time

would you like to join us
get rid of your phones
and your games
and your painted on ghoulish grins
would you like to feel real
and not plastic anymore

all you have to do is breathe and
dream
