When People Disagree

We find in today's political world
And especially as of late
That intolerance and resentment
Often blossom into hate.

Causing good friends to become estranged
Even loved ones to depart
Because of upstart ideologues
With pretentious bleeding hearts.

Who refuse to acknowledge points of view
That don't align with theirs
And when it comes to real debate
Resort to splitting hairs.

It's hard to reason with them
Because they do not see
That respectful discourse proffers peace
When people disagree.

But instead, they lose composure
Then scoff and condescend
While posturing an arrogance
They angrily defend.

Yet, the Bible speaks with clarity
That the greatest of commands
Is to love each other zealously
As civility demands.

And that would end the hatred
In the political world today
Should the intolerant learn to tolerate
What others have to say.
