Poetic Verses

Dusty Cat

You came to us so happily
An angel to heal our heart
With a few years behind you
Yet enthusiastic from the start

Energetic and so curious
As if you were a kitten
The moment that we saw you
We were truly smitten

Your fur was like a fluffy cloud
Upon which I'd lay my head
And you'd snuggle in all cozy
And share space upon the bed

You followed me from room to room
And watched for when I'd sit
To jump up on my lap
And cuddle just a bit

Each morning running through the house
At your fastest speed
Of china cups or people
Never taking heed

It was playtime with your companion cat
Until a sunny window would beckon
Upon a chair back or table lying
Passing the time, I reckon

And when I‘d return from a long hard day
I'd hear little paws scurry on the floor
With upturned face and swaying tail
Faithfully waiting at the door

It's quiet now without your morning run
Companion cat sits alone so sadly
We wish you could be here again
we miss you oh so badly

You looked so sweet and majestic
With your long soft fur
Cooing sounds you made instead of meow
But soft and steady was your purr

Illness took you so swiftly
I wish we had more time
I miss you Dusty cat
Death took you in your prime
