 Reflections of My Heart

Looking Through My Life's Window If Walls Could Talk

 Looking Through My Life's Window

If Walls Could Talk

67 Danne Road, Trevilians Va.

 Oh what a story
they would tell
The thirty-six years
one family did dwell

Some of sorrow
but mostly of joy
A Mother, Father
two girls and a boy

I remember moving in
not knowing we weren't alone
The lady with the keys
was chilling to the bone

The old un-resting soldiers
that would ride late at night
On horseback across the yard
at first would give us such fright

On the upstairs floor
The dark vivid stain
Where a wounded soldier
Had laid in pain

The train rumbling by
almost shook you out of bed
The sound of foot steps
of the un-resting dead

Ahh the old soldier
in the upstairs room
We knew he meant no harm
and would bring us no doom

The soldiers on horseback
would stop in the yard
Always at night
they would play this card

These were not dreams
or fear of the night
For at first I wasn't aware
of the Civil War fight.

I was a young girl
of only about eleven
Not knowing of those
not yet gone to heaven

But over the years
we all learned to co exist
Ms. Danne... The old soldiers
would not be dismissed.

The lives that nourished
with in these precious walls
That have been standing strong
since before the South's fall

The children's laughter
and delightful glee
I now wish I had bottled
and kept just for me.

Over the years
The un-resting ceased to be
I pray they are with our Lord
Now resting and free

Oh the secrets held
within these old walls
The Love it contained
I pray still walk the halls

The echoes of the past
on my heart do gently walk
Oh what a tale they would tell
If only these walls could talk.

The Battle of Trevilian Station
(now called Trevilians)
was fought on June 11th and 12th, 1864,
in Union Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant's
Overland Campaign
Against Confederate
Gen. Robert E. Lee's Army
of Northern Virginia.
Union cavalry under
Maj. Gen. Philip Sheridan
fought against Confederate cavalry
under Maj. Gens. Wade Hampton
and Fitzhugh Lee
in the bloodiest and largest
all-cavalry battle of the war.

This battle was fought all around
the above home that I grew up in
in Trevilians Va

ღ God asked me how long I planned on keeping you in my life.
I smiled and said...
How do I choose between always and forever...
But then I have found that's really not up to me... ღ
