Rite of Passage

Many parents are disillusioned now
And emotionally distraught
To think their children don't embrace
Sound values they were taught.

After all the years of making sure
Their every need was met
It worries parents to the point
That it becomes a threat.

But it's not at all uncommon
For youth to spread their wings
As if a rite of passage
Once they cut the apron strings.

And proceed to launch out on their own
To explore new avenues
Which doesn't make them right or wrong
They just have different views.

So parents need not be dismayed
Should their children drift away
For with sound values planted deep
They will return someday.
