Cold War Reprised

Sadam Hussain was our man
Armed by us when he fought Iran
Ruled Iraq with an iron hand
But all in all a peaceful land.

Invaded by the West, WMD not found
Sadam discovered hiding underground
Stable regime overthrown
Consequences just not known

Country left in unstable state
Soon to be ruled by chaos and hate.
Contributed to regional crisis
Religious mania, growth of ISIS.

Land of the Brave, Home Of The Free
Too ready to interfere in any country
Generally leaving chaos and disorder
As Russia regrouped inside its border.

Putin flexes muscles and then
Russia rises inexoraby again
America out on the electoral stump
Heaven help us, not President Trump.

They fought by proxy in the Cold War
Could it possibly happen once more
And so the story goes on and on
An age of near calm sadly gone.
