The Backyard Of My Life

Walking With Lady Diamond

Walking with lady diamond down old dirt road
Shes telling me her hopes and her dreams
She said love is the light but it can be such a heavy load
Behind beautiful tears nothing is ever what it seems
Forgotten memories from a lost weekend
Both of us running to the primrose path
The writing was on the wall letters i was meaning to send
Sorry if i made you cry you could always make me laugh

Listening to lady diamond play the harpsichord
Singing to the revolution she hears inside her head
She said faith is enough she never prays to the lord
While she whispers another good reason to go back to bed
Bittersweet emotions from days of gold
You and me chasing tomorrow time after time
In the middle of the night she likes someone to hold
After smoking some cigarettes she pours me some wine

Standing under the clock at Waterloo station
Busy doing nothing waiting around for you
Reminds me of a similar situation
Back when i was free as a bird i didn't have much to do

Talking to lady diamond about the shows on Broadway
Shes pointing to the pictures in a magazine
Whats she got that i ain't got maybe someday
It will be me up on that silver screen
Crazy conversations on a bridge to nowhere
The two of us looking out across the water
Star crossed lovers connected laying our souls bare
While she read lines from a poetry book i bought her

Sitting with lady diamond under the apple tree
After midnight where the moonlight swims
She said love can be a blessing but it can bring such misery
When she danced in the long grass whistling gypsy hymns
Feelings abandoned with yesterdays tears
Both of us clutching to different ideals
Maybe we will meet up again in a couple of years
And see how the other one feels
