Poetic Verses

Where Works Alone Will Fail

I've attended church most all my life
And thought I knew the score
That redemption for a man is earned
By works and little more.

Which required me to involve myself
In everything I could
From teaching class to charity
Yet, unsure where I stood.

Therefore, I felt an emptiness
Which led me to confess
That I could never do enough
To merit worthiness.

But at the point of giving up
I was introduced to grace
The favor freely given man
That works cannot replace.

And in that glorious moment
I came to realize
That it's by grace and not by works
Which saves and sanctifies.

So, with that new perspective
That goes beyond the pale
I'm wholly sure that grace redeems
Where works alone will fail.
