As Naked and Unclean

Joe Lewis once said an able foe
Might run but could not hide
And that's the way it is with God
The same may be applied.

Though we can veil our secrets
And cloak our sinful way
Our wrongs will not lie buried in
Ash heaps of yesterday.

For faith alone should tell us
That if we be redeemed
We must submit in penitence
As naked and unclean.

No longer to be fearful
Being duly justified
After which, unlike the Lewis foe
We'll have no need to hide.
