Father's  Bible

I retrieved my father's Bible
Which had not seen use in years
And as I brushed away the dust
My eyes filled up with tears.

Because he died so long ago
When God called him away
After which, I put it on a shelf
Where it was until today.

I gently thumbed through pages
Some attached by tape and glue
And reminisced about the time
That Bible looked brand new.

After which, I started to reflect
On what it meant to me
To watch him as he read that book
What a precious memory.

Then I began to wonder if
I ever could attain
A semblance of his loveliness
Now on a higher plane.

But my father's Bible heartens me
To at least give it my best
If only to be half the man
For whom my life was blessed.
