The Rift

We were so close
You just had to stay
But something in you froze
And things went a different way

I wanted you to meet me halfway
Crossing this bridge to meet me
Some reason you looked away
And walked away silently

A lost soul
Enveloped in another's lust
He was playing you for a fool
And then damaged my trust

Watching you throw grenades
Between us on this high ground
Damaging what we built for decades
Without even turning around

Only able to call for you
As the explosions set ablaze
This bridge tumbled out of view
That left me in a yearning gaze

I watched from across the rift
Helpless to call your name
I felt your love drift
And seen what we became

As the fire burns deeper
You took several steps away
As I look in this burning crater
Wishing you wouldn't stray

As the smoke clears
And the shadows subside
Only left with tears
Without you being by my side
