The Backyard Of My Life

Old Enemy Of Mine

Old Enemy Of Mine

So you got what you wanted in the end
Dose it feel the way you thought it would?
How dose victory taste?
Now you no longer feast on the bones of defeat
Do you miss the thrill of the game?
Maybe there one and the same
After all it gave you a reason to strive
A passion to never give in
Do you ever wonder what your old enemy is up to
From time to time
Do you miss the dance now the chase is over
Are you satisfied with your success?
That beautiful bird of paradox

Like a wild cat without a mouse to catch
Like an odd sock on a washing line of pairs
Like a fire without any smoke
Like death without taxes
Like a guitar without strings
Like an old poor painter with no brush or canvas
Like a poet with no paper to print on
Like red brick wall with a hole in it
Like a mirror cracked down the middle
Like a solider with no war to fight
Like a preacher with no congregation
Like a brand new knife with nothing to cut
Like a rose without a thorn in its side
Like a ship with no great wide ocean to sail
Like a rebel without a cause

So you got what you wished for
You got to quench your thirst from a drink of desire
You turned the dream into reality
But reality is hard thing to face
Maybe ill just retire and look the other way
Dose it make you feel better your not living on the edge
Your not hungry for money or power
While you watch the wheels stop spinning
The race is over and the end credits are running down the screen
With a do not disturb sign hanging on solitude's door
That's when you'll discover JUST like everybody else
Your still searching for something more
