Poetic-Verses

'' The Freedom, You Now Take For Granted ''

When you look at me,
What is it you see,
Apart from an old lump of wood,
You may not agree,
I'm the reason you're free,
For your liberty, I did what I could.

See past my age,
With me engage,
Believe me, you'll find out the truth,
As I turn the page,
How do you gauge?
If I'm real, or just being uncouth.

When I was young,
I burst a lung,
Fighting those who would seek to dictate,
When war was sprung,
I was highly strung,
I didn't know the meaning of hate.

I adopted the will,
The enemy to kill,
Though to you it doesn't make sense,
Though a bitter bill,
What it did instil,
Is our liberty required defence.

Though the battles were heated,
Anarchy was defeated,
In order that you could survive,
Our age group depleted,
May it never be repeated,
We fought to ensure you could thrive.

This old lump you view,
Will one day be you,
With those younger, don't feel aggrieved,
Whatever you do,
To your morals stay true,
Be proud of what you've achieved.

Still to this day,
There's a price to pay,
Don't ever become disenchanted,
In any affray,
You must never betray,
