Eternities

Is the advance of science
A pursuit of the inexplicable,
An attempt at a Comprehension
Of a level which we are incapable?
Will there be a final tick of
The cosmic clock at the end
As the Star Eaters finish their meal,
Darkest of darkness descend,
And Space at last becomes
A truly empty void
Of nothingness,
Barren and devoid?
Will the once Black Holes
And the Dark Matter
Suddenly, by their time scales,
Suddenly burst and shatter
In a searing flash of recreation
Tearing through time and space
To be observed millennia later
By a recent evolved sentient race.
Grappling with their creation myth?
Or, will nothingness stretch on and on
That magnificence that had once been
Finally, irrevocably devolved and gone,
An incident in an eternity of eternities,
We, just for a while, accidental observers?
