Poetry By A CONTEMPORARY POET

Lies Behind Those Eyes

As I watch your facial expression and that tells me
everything I need to know.
Fake lies behind those eyes and the jealousy comes
right through.
I had my struggles and that burden was mine to bare.
I had love and support from my family when none of my so called
friends were there.
A young child in situations...Even grown men couldn't withstand.
So I watch your eyes and facial expression before I shake hands.
Life has taught me to be aware of snakes.
Lies Behind Those Eyes...
You show love today and tomorrow there's hate.
My mother told me to give respect say Please and Thank You,
and that will go a long way.
I stayed to myself for years attention I did not pay.
To no one that threw shade to shine.
That's not the Geechie way.
I see the subliminal shots you take when you try to flex your
muscle you were not there when my family had to struggle.
I wanted more for myself and that's why I work the way I did.
I wanted to better myself I studied hard and became that kid.
I lived up to all my expectations no matter what man say.
I showed kids that from poverty there's always a better way.
I knew I could be everything I wanted to be.
So I see those lies behind those eyes you fooled some, but you never
fooled me.
As humans we can have a discussion and not always agree.
For years I have been nice and watched people make a joke of me.
Lies behind those eyes...
Just let me be.
