The Backyard Of My Life

The Diary Of A Poet

Get up go for a walk
Through the poppy fields
Lay down on the grass
Looking up at the faces in the clouds
With pen and paper in hand
Throw some sentences together on the page
Letting words paint the picture

Stop off at a corner coffee shop
To read a little bit of bukowski
While watching the eyes
Of the pretty petite french girl
Who's standing behind the counter
Handing change to the students
Bringing inspiration to all the artists

Jump on a bicycle
Riding through the center of town
Taking time to feed the pigeons
Fascinated at the penny fountain
Through the cast iron railings
Drift on down to the waterfront docks
Early Sunday morning

Run to the bus station
Waiting for my numbers to come up
Sitting on top deck alone at the back
Watching the world pass by the window
Back at home with candles and wine
Trying to put down my feelings
In verse and rhyme

Dropping the needle
On to some old vinyl from the 60s
With my head in the clouds
Listening to the sounds
Its like a bridge over memory lane
Then later counting sheep to fall asleep
To do it all again tomorrow
