The Hit

This day I knew would come,
When everyday together would run.

And mix with the night,
Oh the colors are a sight.

I'm growing older now,
No longer pulling the plow.

My soul has been shattered,
And all the pieces scattered.

Still they take their shard,
Just to say they hold the card.

I'm too damn old to fight,
Even when I know I'm right.

They test me every day,
Trying to drag me into the Frey.

Making me someone I've never known,
While they break themselves upon my stone.

Someday I'll lose my battle with it,
But they will know they've been hit.
