AND THE NIGHT SKY WOULD BECOME BLUE AGAIN

its an enormous world
and underneath it we are all
under the same quilt of sky
the blueness of it
emboldening

one day perhaps you'll remember
the words I made
and how they were delivered
in between my sighs

or maybe it will all blend
as a storm does
and how the thunder arrives
and then recedes and is gone

my shadow short
my eyes of the sky
my hair twisted as a storm
my echos not remaining long

my poems not real poetry
but a litany of words
and impressions from a distant mind
and maybe an alternate universe

I tried to cross into your
ether
your solitude
and climb the walls which
closed you in
the trust called yours
not for my asking nor the taking

sometimes I've only known
the largess of my heart
when pieces were torn
and there seemed I'd lent it out too much
so that all of its parts
could not be put as one
and the end result was a
kind of un-subtle breaking

the sky is blue today
its a comfort but no longer the joy
it once was
to think we shared some warmth
together underneath of it
and called it something
called it regard
but didn't call it friend to love

it is hard and bitter fruit
the kind that doesn't ripen
and withers on its vine
the look of it lush and luscious
so good to eat
yet doesn't nourish the one
who would touch
and dream

dreams half-shared
indeed are rotten
half shared a blue sky
one day too soon forgotten

the rush the hush the quickening
of breathing wind
the sight I had of you
that first time
that I try to repeat in my mind
again and again
would I that you would come back to me
in that singular way
so that I could breathe in hope
and the night sky would become blue again.
