The Backyard Of My Life

Those Hollow Babylon Blues

Who do you think you are?
The world around you ain't set in stone
It never has and never will be
Do you think you can see some kind of secret
That the rest of us don't deserve to know
Your still stuck here stranded lost looking for a place to go
Standing on top of your invisible soap box
Are the answers down the back of your sofa
Fully formed in glorious CinemaScope
The trouble with the conscious mind is it thinks
It knows everything but knows nothing at all
It cant see the writings written on the wall

We never know how we look through other peoples eyes
One mans truth is another mans lies
Someone else junk is someone else treasure
What brings me pain might bring you pleasure

I wonder where we are whats this thing we call reality?
Maybe we are free falling in a butterfly's dream
After a million conversations you will still never know what i mean
The answer's only seem to fly away when you try to put your finger on them
When you try to touch the face of god
Everything slips away and you are left hanging on the wire
Like darkness surrounded by an eternal fire
You can make a wish throw your penny into the fountain
Nobody ever knows whats coming down the mountain
You can look into a crystal ball and its still as clear as mud
The problem with perception is it sees what it wants to see
It paints by numbers and tells you how its gonna be

We never know how other people feel
What i consider illusion could to you be very real
I could wave hello but you think i mean goodbye
What makes me laugh might make you cry
There's no other way
There's no other way
There's no other way
