They talk of the Glory of Empire
Never of the misery they cause
Founded by invasive conquest
And the savagery of wars.
Not by beneficence and charity
But for subjugation
Pillage, theft, repression and,
Of course, exploitation..
Destruction of Societies
Civilisations lost
For the occupiers the benefits
For the natives the cost,
In their own lands treated
As the second class outcast.
No, don’t talk to me of Empires
They should be things of the past
No, there’s no glory
In any Empire’s name
They should be remembered
With remorse and with shame.
