The Backyard Of My Life

Liberty Ship (It's Never Too Late)

The weather was atrocious
Rain and hail hit the dirty ground
I was busy working over time
Locking the cemetery gates
Wiping my hands  from keeping
All those graves clean
Trying not to trample on the flowers
Left by loved ones to remember the dead
Wrestling with the war lords inside my head

Sunlight fell from a crack in the clouds
So she tells me anyway i was swallowed by sleep
Hoping that i wouldn't fall far behind
Looking for a message in my deserted dreams
Searching for some solitude
In a world come undone at the seams
After a while i was back on my feet
Still tired but ready to go again
Poverty is the curse of many men

Its never too late to turn things around
Everything that's lost
Will someday be found
Its never too late
To celebrate your life

I was waiting for the waitress
To bring me my breakfast
Down at the local greasy spoon
I was hungry for something else
In these times of conformity
Maybe nobody could give me what i needed
Sometimes you gotta serve yourself
I don't belong to any church or organization
The most valuable thing i own is my reputation

Later that day i was climbing
Up that hidden hill
Carrying a burden to bury
When i saw a solider deep in prayer
Asking for forgiveness
Sat there in silence waiting for god to speak
When all of a sudden the birds started singing
Maybe he will put that book back on the shelf
Sail that liberty ship and think for himself

Its never too late
To be what you might have of been
See things you've never seen
Its never too late
To appreciate your alive
