The Backyard Of My Life

I Was Young Once Upon A Time Ago

I was young once upon a time ago
Reckless in the night
With a foolish foot of pride in my mouth
I was naive my beliefs where based on things i could not know
Literature prophecies philosophies i didn't fully understand
I set myself up to sink in the quicksand
Lacking a little in knowledge and wisdom

I was young once many moons ago
Back when i believed in magic and love at first sight
Evenings empire was always full of fairy tales
With time on my side the sun would sink so slow
On the gates at the garden of Eden full of crimson roses
Free from all responsibility and everything it proposes
Then the cynical side of things reveled its ugly face
Shining a light on the world hidden from my eyes

You can never go back you can never return
The bridge of innocence must crumble and burn
Nobody is immortal death is the only thing in life that is for certain
So like Dorothy in the wizard of oz you gotta draw back the curtain
You have to see reality as it really is
Don't be bamboozled by bright lights and showbiz

I was young once is seems so long ago
When i believed in father Christmas
Walking on sunshine thinking the streets where paved with gold
Blinded by desire i couldn't see we reap what we sow
I had no idea humans were slaves and had never been free
My mind was still hypnotized by media and TV
I thought that god or maybe the government would make the world a better place
I was young once upon a time ago
