The Moonlight

Those early days, in the village it was such joy
At the appearance of the moon in the sky
To us then children it was such a great delight
To have those sessions of playing in the moonlight

We will sit and even roll around in the grass
Questioning each other, or recapping what was done in the day's class
And those amongst us fortunate to have a radio, or access to a newspaper
Would fill us in with what items that transpire

All around one could see so much happiness to tell
As there was no a break from those dark night spells
This was shown by families going on such long walks
As their voices rang out happily as they talk

One weekends that little school break was welcome
More time to ran around to enjoy just have some fun
Playing hide and seek in the bush and came fields
And there was burning the salty sweat, made the bruises ones to feel

How the light reflected from the green corn so bright
That aroma from the blossoms scented up the night
And through them we would run but with such care
Because if there was any damage, a penalty was there

Light so bright this brought the village old ladies
Around them we gather starry eyed to hear a story
Then they would start well and later shift to duppy
They would smile knowing to us it shall be scarry
