Poetic Verses
Near the Dump
As I looked through my window my spirits slump
Because not too far away is the mountain of a dump
This sight too, gives my gut such a deep wrench
Emanating from it was at times an unbearable stench
Up above the vulture are circling in the sky
Because in there was something they espy
On seeing this my neighbor emitted a sigh
This sight was too much and she began to cry
Through the tears she said have you ever driven through the country
There by are places there that depict a picture of beauty
Flowers, trees and those lawns manicured so nicely
Because in those areas live the wealthy, and that ethnicity
But us, the ones who are labeled to be in the minority
Whose ancestors contributed to here, under slavery
How their back break to shape this land, what a legacy
As we are banished into the proximity of dumps and refinery
How many times there are the burning of a fire
Explosions too, as the accumulated methane get much higher
Along with this we have to contend with the ash and smoke
Cause those asthmatic to cough, wheeze and choke
But another thing is that we must be weary of the living site
And should be suspicious and not believe all is right
Because one should not rule out that sometime in the past
That perhaps beneath the ground there, many chemicals were cast
Once can rest assure they pretend not to see the of detriment
That this posed to us human beings and of course the environment
And actions seem to imply that they do not really care
Because they and their families are living far away from there
What a pity to see adults and the future, those children
Being subjected to what can be described as a selfish situation
As they see the conditions are not fit for their specie to reside
But it is so ideal for those minorities to happily abide
Because not too far away is the mountain of a dump
This sight too, gives my gut such a deep wrench
Emanating from it was at times an unbearable stench
Up above the vulture are circling in the sky
