The Backyard Of My Life

Lovers On A Beautiful Night

Meet me at the post office before the staff clock out
I will be carrying a bouquet of yellow carnations
Standing in the shadows smoking a cigarette
Pretending to be strangers when you catch my eye
We talk to each other without saying a single word

Hand in hand climbing over the cast iron gates
Walking through a secret garden down to the waterfront
Sitting on an old oak bench staring up at the stars
Laughing at little things only we would find amusing
With our minds and our heads high up in the white clouds

Tell me all about the things you did when you was young
While both our wishes fall at our feet under a blue moon
As the darkness surrounds us as the cold closes in
We try to get back on the road we run heading for the light
Two hearts intertwined lovers on a beautiful night

Slowly slipping down some side street on our way home
Feeling like we where wild reckless fancy and free
We could hear echoes of long lost forgotten dreams
Everything was perfect the universe was in complete divine order
Stepping up the spiral staircase to lay down in my big brass bed

Sinking into silk sheets carried away in a wave of soft kisses
All these emotions and passionate promises all melt into one
Both our bodies tangled in flames of desire
It was something special that only our hearts would know
So deep so heavy so warm and wonderful

Bells began ringing ripping through the pages of peace
Why cant we stay like this a little bit longer i don't want her to leave
As the sun rises on all the dancing we did in the dark
With your perfume on my pillow as you fly off in the morning light
Sentimental memories of lovers on a beautiful night
