The Twilight Years Fears

Life's realizations can hit hard
with the onset of old age,
grappling with new limitations,
fearing the next stage.

You soon grow philosophical,
which tends to ease the blow.
Just chalk it all up to old age
and back to the status quo.

The aging ills and maladies
that brought on abject fear
become the usual,
and not the menace they appear.

We sometimes make comparisons
at a stumble or a cough
to an antique rolling clunker
with its old parts falling off.

But, in the end, we take it slow
and put away our pride,
and by whatever means we choose,
we take it all in stride.
