 ramblings and things

Lessons from Viet Nam

Liquid fire that clung and burned

Left scars on the body and mind

Tracts of unmarked land

Methodically  land mined

Agent Orange from clear skies

Carried on the slightest breeze

Deforming the yet unborn

Defoliating growing trees

Air America operations

So many flights made

Putting money in the pockets

Of Warlords of the drug trade

Flooding USA and Europe

With more and more

Raising cash to finance

That far distant war

Traumatised G.I.’s fighting

A long, unwinnable war

Mentally scarred and forever

Wondering what was it all for.

On both sides quickly

Casualties rise and mount

The piles of body bags

Statistics of the body count.

The humiliating retreat

Flooding the TV screen

Retreating from that place

They should never have been

Lessons from Viet Nam
