Musings by The Poet Loriet

Flying Lessons

You taught me how to fly,
held me close to your heart
until my wings were strong enough
to dance among the clouds.

You nurtured my mind,
my body, my soul...
prepared a nest I could come to
within your loving arms.

You gave me the name lorikeet,
a rainbow-colored parakeet.
You taught me who I was and
showed me how to be beautiful.

You nurtured my spirit
so I could give that gift
to others in my life, be
a caring mama bird.

I will fly away now,
taste freedom and the
cerulean blue sky, but
I will never forget...

the green trees where
my heart was given a home.
