Musings by The Poet Loriet

Where's My Sunshine?

Rain, rain, bring my babies home
on the long safe arms of the
Illinois interstates.

At my doorstep, may they
attack me with sloppy kisses,
tackling hugs, "I love you, Mommy"
and excited squeals until my ears
are ready to burst.

Let me see the gleam in their eyes.
I'll put the chores away and
listen intently to their
excited stories of adventures
and mis-adventures too
as they snuggle next to me.

I want to stroke the hair on
their sweet little heads,
rub their arms, scratch backs,
listen to their happy noises.

While they've been gone,
my walls have been drained
of all their colorful hues
as has my life. I miss them.

Rain, rain, bring my babies,
my sunshine back to me.
Deliver them gently
into my waiting embrace.
I need their laughter
ringing in my halls
once again.
