Musings by The Poet Loriet

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Today was my day
alone with my son.
My daughter had her
standing Tuesday date
with her therapist,
so I picked just him
up from camp.

He ran squealing
into my arms,
"Moooommmmmyyyy!"
As we walked to the van,
he went into details about
the awful camp lunch,
the bully, etc, etc...

I said, "Whoooaaa, honey!
You got any good news
for Mommy today or
are you just gonna be
my bad news bear?"
I rumpled his hair
and grinned wide.

He said, "OK, mommy.
You want the good news?
The good news is that
I made it through camp
without you today."

"The bad news is,
before you picked me up,
I was only one percent alive."

I burst into giggles.
No matter how hard
of a work day I had,
it was instantly
forgotten.

How simply sweet and
innocent our children are!
They always know how
to make mommies smile
in wonderment.
