Musings by The Poet Loriet

Out of the Blue

Daddy's new girlfriend
looks great in a swimsuit.
That's what she said.
Family dinner.
All of us together.
Sharing food, conversation.
Self-conscious,
all eyes on me
waiting for a reaction.
Suddenly,
I'm really glad
I ordered
the fruit plate.
And I can just bet
it's a bikini too...
Why should I care?
I stab my lettuce leaves
and attempt a sunny smile.
