I have a diamond inside of me, it's been all covered with coal.
I have a diamond inside of me, and it's called my soul.
My diamond is flawless and perfect, though it doesn't seem that way,
My diamond will one day be cleaned, all the coal broken away.
The coal that covers it, is the world and it's desires,
But, as these things are shaken off, my diamond glows like fire.
In order to see my diamond, I must let go of selfish things,
And allow God to work through me and consume my entire being.
My soul or rather my diamond, it's what I've always had,
So when I have no material things, my life will still be glad.
For inside is a valued asset, it's with me all the time,
Even when I'm flat broke, not even having a dime.
I must constantly polish my diamond so that all may see,
That God resides in EVERYTHING, I mean us--you and me.
If I forget this fact and grab hold of the worldly life,
I began attracting new coal and clinging to new strife.
I know that God lives in me, giving my diamond value.
You should also know that I behold the diamond in you.
So go ahead and knock off the coal and the worries of the day,
and let your perfect diamond shine and brighten someone else's way.
