Musings by The Poet Loriet

Clandestine Affair

We did it in a dressing room,
risky but the saleswomen
didn't seem to notice
what was going on, so
why should we feel guilty?

It was lust at first sight.
Though we'd just met,
I thought you were very sexy,
so I took you breathlessly
into the first empty room.
You were flare-legged whips
and chains denim and felt
right as I looked at you
with undisguised lust and
pinned you up against the wall.

But you were expensive and shallow
and cared more about my legs
than you did my butt, and I need
more from a relationship than that.

I put my clothes back on,
zipped you back up and said,
"I'm sorry. It just didn't work
between us two. I thought we'd
have more chemistry than this,
but you just don't fit into my life
at this point in time.
I can't commit to you.
Can we just remain friends?"

You looked a little blue
as I shut the door and
walked away without glancing
in your direction.

But I shrugged and thought~
There's a lot more fish in the sea,
and a lot more jeans in the mall.

"Let's go," I said to my boyfriend
who was waiting outside patiently.
"I just didn't like the way
they fit my butt. It's over."

He nodded knowingly and we walked
out of the store, hand in hand
in search of the record store.
He's a very good man for
allowing me the freedom
to experiment.
