Words and Verse
Life (Translation-Russian)
Pushkin's depressiveness
Accidental gift and futile
Life, why wast thou given me?
Why did fate so dark and brutal
Wrench thee from thy liberty?
Who with cruel power in possession
From the dark void called me out,
Kindled in my soul pure passion,
Plowed my mind with seeds of doubt?
Idle mind and void heart pounding
Neither see nor seek a goal:
And life's monotone resounding
Casts a shadow on my soul.
Accidental gift and futile
Life, why wast thou given me?
Why did fate so dark and brutal
Wrench thee from thy liberty?
Who with cruel power in possession
From the dark void called me out,
Kindled in my soul pure passion,
Plowed my mind with seeds of doubt?
Idle mind and void heart pounding
Neither see nor seek a goal:
And life's monotone resounding
Casts a shadow on my soul.
