I dedicate this poem to the person who says that poetry is not all hearts and flowers. It is not of course, I agree, but poets write about life, and poets can put into words feelings that others may not be able to express. So poets do not have to experience the situation to write about it.
It is good to be alone sometimes
To look within your soul
To find out who you really are
To make yourself feel whole.
It is different just to be alone
Because you made the choice
Not because you have no friends
And need to hear a voice.
There is a difference, loneliness
Is something that you feel
No-one`s there to give a damn
That feeling`s very real.
But yes it`s good to be alone
When all around is noise
With people talking at you
Not listening to your voice.
There has to be a balance
A quiet time for you
To think and clear the cobwebs
Things only you can do.
But yes we do need people
Around at times to care.
Loneliness is different
No-one is ever there.
I like my company very well
But it is good to know
That when I need somebody
I have somewhere to go.
All around this big wide world
There are people all alone
Who have no friends or family
May not even have a home
So when I speak of loneliness
I speak for those who live
With only their own company
To them I`d like to give.
The chance to say they`re lonely
And then perhaps they`ll see
Even `though they`re strangers
We care, yes you and me.
