Autumn Morning AubadeWe swing together, side by side, my head resting upon your shoulder, today's newspaper in our hands as we share snippets of articles, make easy conversation, last night's passion smoldering away and we are comfortable- watch ruby red leaves rain down from my trees, hear birds sing simple tunes, my son's footsteps on the deck above, my daughter's giggles as she swings on the tree swing and talks to her doll... Our time together has come to an end as the sun rises higher in the brightening sky. You stand and stretch, tell me you have to get to your son's football practice, and I nod. I also have my to-do list stretching ahead of me. One last embrace, one lingering tender closed-mouth kiss to get us through the day apart. The misty morning has broken~ Yes, darling. take care have a good day call you later I'll think of you (my love) (every single moment). But I just say ~goodbye~ and walk upstairs, the leaves swirling at my feet as your keys turn in the ignition. Lori Beal Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
