Shadow Play
We wandered around the street,
We went past the kiosk selling sundries
We walked over the bridge
We sat on a white stone bench
Cold breeze blowing from hills
White mansions floating on lakes
Beneath a gorgeous moon.
Glowing stained-glass panels.
Somewhere in the world
It meant something
I told her about my dream
In a hushed tone
The devil had enormous black eyes
He had a stern look
He crushed me with a dagger
I was brutally murdered.
She could feel my whisper
Her eyes traveling across my body
She felt me under her coats
Her face turned strikingly pale.
Watched her lips forming words
I know what it’s likely to be lonely.
In frosted hair, in rusted blue coat
Kissing her hand across the bench
My voice drifting through her body
Under her paper thin skin- I speak
You will never need to worry about.
My dream fluttered away in wind.
