Final Dance
SultryRose's Signatures
Tonight I dance
because we haven't made love
in over a week and I need
the drumbeat to be my lover.
Tonight I dance until it hurts,
until I hold my sides and gasp
for a sip of water because pain
reminds me that I am still
capable of feeling.
Tonight I dance because
it's better than crying in my pillow
and screaming your name to a night
that has no ears to hear with.
Tonight I dance to once again
feel like a woman and wrap
my body in sequins and
flowing fabrics, a poor substitute
for a warm embrace.
Tonight I dance,
move my hips with control, precision,
because there is little else
that I'm capable of moving.
You are a stone wall,
cold and unmoving,
immune to my feelings,
but see my body...
It still moves,
still responds,
still exists.
Tonight--
I dance.
