BLIZZARD
The snow came down softly at first,
blanketing earth with feathery down.
Crystal flakes from leaden skies burst,
covering autumn's deadened ground.
It continued throughout the day,
and a north wind added it's breath.
The swirling snow became gray,
and pale daylight met it's death.
Harder and wilder the wind blew,
like many demons from the north.
The snow , thicker and deeper grew,
by a winter whirlwind brought forth.
Like a white shroud it covered all,
streets, houses and forest trees.
Covered the earth with a deathly pall,
brought humanity to it's knees.
As dawn arose on the second day,
the sun a wizened, pale orb,
fought to bring back it's golden ray,
and give meager warmth to absorb.
By afternoon the sky was bright,
exposing a glorious new world..
All things pure, virgin white,
the earth cleansed, new, unfurled.
