Insane Lullabies
“Sweet dreams
& God bless you”,
is what she said
right before she punched him,
lying there in bed
“Rest well,
my dear,
& have a good night”,
she whispered as she
strapped him in,
snug & tight
“Mommy loves
her little darling”,
she hissed down at him,
fiercely snarling her best,
most stony grin
***
He couldn’t wait to close his eyes
(but not quite yet, too terrified!)
for then he could finally shut his live nightmare out,
find safety in worlds his young soul could seek out
& stumble, in dreams,
on a time of surcease
where she left him alone,
left him in peace
