M's Poetry

Final

Well it's the end of the road
so unexpected when you left us
no dry eye around
looks like the heavens have a new angel in town
left behind and feeling reality set in
it's something I don't want
but it's something I can't resist
why did you leave us?
only God truly knows
but nothing is as painful
as seeing the casket close
they say we are having one final viewing
but I can't force myself to see
I can't even whisper goodbye
those words were always foreign to you and me
and as the pallbearers lift you into the hearse
I think through the tears,is this all that is left?
standing at the grave side I scan all the faces
each trapped in their own grief
each one clutching to their own beliefs
and the final prayer is said
as tears silently roll down my cheek
each one represents a memory I will always keep
the tears will dry but not the memories
they will never die, they live forever
my love will last forever for you
it's the only thing that is final.

dedicated to a special person in my life who lost their grandmother.
