Waiting For That Damn #64 Bus

weary and frustrated doesn't begin to describe
and believe me i'm not even going to try
to hide what i feel
as i wait for that damn #64 bus.

i watched a guy walk by
one foot dragging behind him sideways
and my eyes took in through tree branches
a child at play.

people streaming past
men in uniform
(hey, it's D.C.)
probably not coming home
but on their way to the war.

warily they watched eachother
as i watched them
all of us waiting for the same thing

that damn #64 bus.

i observed some litter
blowing around on the ground
and stopped to ponder on why (lost)
only one shoe was ever left laying around.

i stood there, shuffling one aching foot to the other
upset that i couldn't find my pen and paper
(or the time.)
but, no worries..
look what showed up
it's that damn #64 bus!
