I wrote this poem after watching the film "Cry Freedom" which of course is about apartheid in South Africa, a very moving film...
Hope you out there get the feeling of the bulldozers (dinosaurs)
smashing down the black South Africans home/townships...
DINOSAURS
As darkness lifts across the land, the roar
Of giants slowly creep cautiously, quietly
Yet, proudly of what is about to take place,
For this dinosaur there shall be no shame.
In moments it will cause annihilation and destruction
To this peaceful city of corrugated heaven and earth
Babies will scream in their mothers arms, and the fire God
Will consume everything in his path.
Men with guns and sticks beat one another in retaliation
For what? All they are doing is living, in a home made out of tin
While diplomats talk of new policies, the killing goes on
And children die, perhaps now it's time to talk again before
More die, before the dinosaurs return.
